Samastipur. Mango is called the king of fruits. Bihar is known for various varieties of this delicious fruit. Which have received international recognition. Samastipur and Muzaffarpur are famous for their litchi, similarly Samastipur and Darbhanga are known as the centers of mango. To promote mango cultivation, Mango Festival was organized in Vidyapati Auditorium of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University. A mango eating competition was organized. Scientists and students of the university participated enthusiastically in it.

A large number of people participated in the mango eating competition. Everyone was competing to eat as many mangoes as possible within the stipulated time limit. The top prize was won by Dr. Mahesh Prasad, a resident of Madhubani district and a scientist at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University. Dr. Prasad ate four large mangoes in just two minutes. At the end, the winner of the competition was given a certificate and prize from the university.

Vice Chancellor Dr. PS Pandey was also present in the program. He said Mithila is famous for its variety of mangoes. By working together with farmers and scientists, seeds of high quality plants will be grown in their fields. Dr. Pandey also announced the establishment of a germplasm center in the university. In this, emphasis was laid on the export of mangoes.

Dr. Mahesh Prasad, who won first place in the mango eating competition, told Local 18 that he is from Mithila, where there is a tradition of eating curd and mango. He said, in our region, it is a practice for people to refuse curd and mango at first in a function, but later when they are served this delicious dish, they enthusiastically enjoy it and say aur diyo, aur diyo. He said that I am also from the same region. He told that to prepare for the mango eating competition, he did not eat food for the whole day, so that he could taste as many mangoes as possible.

In celebration of Mango Festival 2024, a one-day workshop was held at Vidyapati Auditorium of the university campus. It focused on the complex science of mango production. The workshop began with the formal lighting of the lamp by the distinguished guests and the Vice Chancellor. Dr. Aranya, renowned horticulturist and former Vice Chancellor of Pusa, as well as Dr. HP Singh, former DDG of ICAR New Delhi Garden, were present at the event.
