An elderly man riding a scooter died after drowning in the Okhla underpass during Friday’s rain in the capital Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Digvijay Kumar Chaudhary (60) from the Aadhar card found in his pocket. Digvijay, who worked as a security guard in Okhla, was going to his duty in the morning. Meanwhile, he became a victim of the accident.

Passersby informed the police about the incident. As soon as the news was received, two fire brigade vehicles along with the police reached the spot. Later, the elderly man was taken out of the water in an unconscious state and sent to Amy Trauma Center with the help of PCR. He was declared dead there. The police has sent the body for postmortem and started investigating the case.

According to the police, Digvijay lived with his family in G-Block, Jaitpur Extension Part-2, Badarpur. His family includes his wife and other members. Digvijay worked as a security guard in a company in Okhla. He was on duty from 7 am on Friday. He left home in the morning after the rain stopped.

During this time, the Okhla underpass was filled with water. Perhaps the elderly Digvijay thought that the water was low, he took his scooter and went towards the deep water and drowned. The pedestrians following him informed the police. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, his team received the information at 6.23 am. After this, the Okhla Industrial Area Police Station reached the spot.

Later, Digvijay was pulled out of the water. After the accident, the police closed the Okhla underpass for traffic. It was reopened only after the water was drained out. The police is investigating with the help of CCTV cameras installed nearby. The police has handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem.
