Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the work of the Public Works Department on Thursday. During this, he instructed that all the 50-year-old bridges in the state should be inspected thoroughly. Their super structure, condition of the pier, blockage in the water-way of the bridges, scour holes on the side of the pier, abutment slope and boulders of the bridge will be tested. Unsafe bridges will be immediately closed for traffic.
The Chief Minister said that in seven years, there has been an unprecedented expansion in the road connectivity of the state. In seven years, the state highway has increased from 7002 km to 10214 km. While the length of rural roads has increased from 1,87,517 km to 1,93,581 km. On an average, 9 km of roads are being widened every day in the state. Every day about 11 km of new road is being built in the villages. He gave instructions to increase this speed further.
Regarding the Kanwar Yatra, the Chief Minister directed that the roads connected to it should be made 100% pothole-free by July 15. Water drainage system will be ensured on waterlogged roads. Emphasizing on completing the campaign of two-lane road connectivity to the block headquarters on time, he expressed satisfaction that the construction of 143 out of a total of 165 roads has been completed.
Grand gates will be built on the borders
The Chief Minister directed to speed up the completion of grand gates on the roads falling on the interstate and international borders of the state. Appreciating the technology of recycling and reusing old road material, Yogi Adityanath said that UP PWD has used this technology for the first time in the country. In Unnao, the construction work was done by recycling the old road using this technology and cemented base and in Kanpur Dehat, by using additives. He directed to build half of the total roads using this technology. He expressed satisfaction that the State Bridge Corporation has completed 395 public interest projects including 270 river bridges, 115 ROBs, 10 flyovers in seven years.
