What is conjunctivitis
This is a type of eye infection in which the eyes become red and swollen. The conjunctiva spreads from the white part of the eye to the inner layer of the eyelids. When the small blood vessels of the conjunctiva swell, the white part of the eyes starts looking red or pink. This is also called pink eye or eye flu.

What not to do in conjunctivitis

  • Avoid rubbing your eyes as much as possible.
  • All family members should not put eye drops from the same dropper.
  • Do not use the infected person’s belongings such as towel, handkerchief, pillow, glasses etc.
  • Do not tie any kind of blindfold on your eyes.
  • Do not go into the pond or pool.
  • Do not go to crowded places.

What to keep in mind in conjunctivitis
1. The infection does not spread to others by seeing a person suffering from conjunctivitis.
2. Children, allergy patients, elderly and people with weak immunity should be more careful.
3. In case of infection, one should rest at home for three to four days.
4. Wash the clothes worn by the patient with hot water and dry them thoroughly in the sun.
5. Keep cleaning your eyes. Keep applying medicine as advised by the doctor.
6. If redness in the eyes persists for more than 3 days, consult a doctor immediately.
