How dangerous is hypersensitivity pneumonitis
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is a chronic interstitial lung disease. In this, wounds develop in the organs and it becomes difficult for the patient to breathe. This problem is quite common in adults but is considered rare in children. According to a statistic, every year such problem is seen in only 2-4 people per 1 lakh population.

What causes hypersensitivity pneumonitis
In this disease, inflammation occurs due to allergy. Farm workers are also at risk of this allergy, because they all come in contact with grain dust or pigeon droppings. These organic materials contain special antigens, which increase the immune response in the lungs and cause inflammation. Fungal spores found in humidifiers, air conditioners or damp walls in homes can also trigger this allergy in highly sensitive people. Along with farming, people engaged in work like poultry farming are also at risk of getting this allergy.
