TMC claims on BJP MP: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh claimed on Thursday (July 18) that two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs have expressed their desire to join the Trinamool Congress during the Martyrs’ Day celebrations to be held on July 21. In this regard, the coming day is going to be important for BJP and TMC.
Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, he said that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will take the final decision after considering all aspects. Kunal Ghosh claimed, “12 BJP MPs have been elected in the recently held Lok Sabha elections and two of them are in touch with us. They have contacted us and expressed their desire to join the Trinamool Congress. They want to work under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and can join the party during the program on July 21.”
Kunal Ghosh did not reveal his identity
He said that the identity of these MPs cannot be revealed at this time. TMC leader Ghosh said that since these MPs have been elected recently, the Trinamool leadership has advised them to wait for some time to avoid coming under the purview of the anti-defection law. He said, “Only Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee will take the final decision in this matter.”
What did BJP say?
BJP’s Bengal unit president and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar did not pay any heed to Kunal Ghosh’s claim and said, “Kunal Ghosh often makes such statements which should not be taken seriously.” Majumdar said, “Let us wait till July 21. We have seen similar claims from leaders like Ghosh earlier as well. He is known to make such statements for publicity.” In such a situation, now it has to be seen whether this is just a political statement or is there any substance in this claim of the TMC leader.
