Success Story of Ankita Bhakat: It is said that dreamers know how to fly. But to make every dream come true, tireless efforts are needed. The financial condition of the family was not good, the father used to run the house somehow by selling milk. But the daughter had to increase the honor of her family. For which the daughter worked very hard and today she is spreading such magic in the field of archery that the whole country is proud of her. This is the story of Ankita Bhakat of West Bengal. Who is representing the country in Paris Olympics (Paris Olympic 2024).

The journey of archery was not easy for Ankita Bhakat. A local competition at the Circus Ground in Kolkata changed her life. Born in the house of a milkman, Ankita had neither good equipment nor any special training. Financial constraints tried to break her spirits but Ankita did not give up.

Representing India at the age of 18

Ankita Bhakat started practising by borrowing equipment from a local club. She worked day and night to hone her talent. In 2014, her hard work paid off and she got a place in the Tata Archery Academy. In Jamshedpur, Ankita further honed her skills under the guidance of coaches Dharmendra Tiwari, Purnima Mahato and Ram Awadhesh. At the age of just 18, Ankita represented the Indian team and participated in the World Archery Youth Championship in Yankton, USA. Since then, she has never looked back. In 2015, Ankita won silver and bronze medals at the Seoul International Youth Archery Fest.

Ankita has many medals to her name

Ankita reached the finals of the Asia Cup and National Championships in 2017 in archery. She won her first gold medal at the Khelo India Women’s National Ranking, one of her many successes. She is the 2017 World Champion in mixed team, team recurve bronze medalist at the 2022 Asian Games. She has won 3 team medals at the Asian Championships. Ankita won a silver medal in 2021, bronze in 2019 and 2023. Ankita secured her place in the Olympics by finishing in the top 8 at the 2024 Final World Archery Olympic Qualifier. She is representing the country at the Paris Olympic Games 2024.
