The issue of vacating the hostels from PhD students in Aligarh Muslim University is getting serious. Now a situation of confrontation has arisen between the university administration and the students. On 26th July, the students closed Bab-e-Syed and raised slogans against the university administration. During the protest, the students also offered Maghrib Namaaz at Bab-e-Syed at around seven o’clock. The ruckus continued till nine in the evening.

On 25 July at 12 midnight, angry students surrounded the VC lodge after being asked to vacate the hostel. After this, on 26 July evening, angry students closed the Bab-e-Syed (gate). They also blocked the road by parking bikes nearby. Due to which the movement of people in the AMU campus was stopped. Student leader Shuaib Qureshi said that students are being oppressed. It is welcome to expel outside students from the hostel, but it is wrong to expel JRF, SRF and PhD students. PhD student Narendra Singh said that they only want from the AMU administration that they should be allowed to stay in the hostel until their oral examination is over.

PhD student Amjad Kamal said that the AMU administration is indulging in hooliganism. Students have been mentally and physically tortured in Habib Hall. Student leader Arif Tyagi alleged that PhD students were misbehaved with in Habib Hall.

Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has also come out in support of the students by opposing the evacuation of the hostel. Spokesperson Zubair Reshi said that PhD students are being affected by the decision of the administration. He said that the dictatorship of the university will not be tolerated.

DSW Prof. Rafiuddin said that 45 students pursuing PhD had come. They have been asked to give their problems in writing. Let us tell you that Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon had given orders to vacate the hostel during summer vacations, against which the PhD students had staged a sit-in protest. Later the Proctorial team started getting the students to vacate the hostel. The team broke the locks of 30 rooms of SS North Hall and sealed them.
