Jammu And Kashmir Weather Update Snowfall In Hill Area Of Temperature Down Zero


Kashmir Weather Update: Light snowfall occurred in some high altitude areas of Kashmir. The minimum temperature was recorded near the freezing point at most places in the valley. Officials gave this information on Sunday.

The Meteorological Department has predicted moderate snowfall at many places in the high altitude areas and light snowfall in the plains from Sunday evening.

Officials said there was light snowfall at a few places in the higher reaches of Gulmarg and Sonamarg-Zojila.

He said that Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.1 degree Celsius on Saturday night. The minimum temperature was recorded below minus 1.4 degree Celsius on Friday night.

Qazigund, considered the gateway to the valley, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, while it was minus 1.6 degrees in Kokernag in south Kashmir, officials said. The mercury was recorded below minus 0.4 degrees in the border district of Kupwara.

Pahalgam, a tourist resort town in Anantnag district, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius. The famous ski resort town of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office said that there is a possibility of moderate snowfall at many places in the higher reaches. Light to moderate snowfall is expected in the plains of the valley.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be cloudy, with widespread moderate snowfall with rain in the plains of Jammu and heavy snowfall in the higher reaches, the weather office said.

Kashmir is currently in the grip of ‘Chillai-Kalan’, a severe winter of 40 days. There is often a high chance of snowfall during this time. This phase runs from 21 December to 30 January.
