Ghulam: Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has directed some great films in Bollywood. These include Arth, Saaransh, Naam, Kabzaa, Sadak, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Aashiqui, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Tamanna. However, Mahesh Bhatt left direction midway due to the lead actor of another blockbuster film.

In an interview to Indian Express, Mahesh Bhatt revealed that he was originally directing Ghulam, but he left the film because of Aamir. Bhatt told that Aamir had asked him if he could dedicate his life to Ghulam and then Mahesh decided that his brother Vikram was the only person who could actually put all his energy into a project.

Mahesh said, “I decided to walk away from it. I told Aamir, I didn’t think films meant so much to me that I would dedicate my whole life to them. It doesn’t mean that much to me and it would be a lie if I say so.”

Mahesh also told that Aamir Khan was surprised by his answer. He further said, “I told him that if there is one person who can give his life for this, it is Vikram Bhatt. When I saw Ghulam, I announced on stage that he has made a film. It is a better film than mine. This is the victory of a guru… that he can give his flame to an extinguished candle, but when the flame becomes a bright sun, you enjoy it, it is amazing.”
