MCD Commissioner Ashwini Kumar has said that this is a very unfortunate incident and in this we have worked on 2-3 fronts. We will demolish all the encroachments in that area and fix the drainage system there. All the basements which are illegal or coaching centers are running there, we are taking action against them. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has sacked a junior engineer and suspended an assistant engineer and has sought an explanation from the concerned executive engineer.

A meeting was called regarding desilting and waterlogging: Saurabh Bhardwaj
On the issue of de-silting and waterlogging in Delhi, Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said, ‘On February 6, I had issued the first notice to call a meeting of all senior officials including the MCD Commissioner regarding de-silting. I had ordered all departments to do so. Make a comprehensive strategy regarding de-silting to avoid waterlogging. You will be surprised to know that many IAS officers including Naresh Kumar were called to the meeting, but none of them attended it.’

No work has been done on the drainage system in Delhi: MLA Durgesh Pathak
MLA Durgesh Pathak said, ‘No work was done on the drainage system in Delhi in the last 15-20 years, who will take action on this? BJP should be ashamed, we demand that action should be taken. All the officials including senior officials found responsible also have responsibility. Bansuri Swaraj should also say that she has been a BJP MP from the area for the last 11 years, she will have to answer why the drainage was not done?’

A four-wheeler broke the gate, about four feet of water entered the institute at once: Student Pawan Gupta
Eyewitness student Pawan Gupta said, “I was here when this incident happened. My coaching centre is right across the road. I waited for about two and a half hours for the water to subside. A four-wheeler passed by, which created a wave (high pressure) which broke the door (of the institute). About four feet of water entered the institute at once. When they saw that water was filling inside, shouldn’t they (the institute) have saved the students?”
