Who was Maharaja Ranjit Singh

Whoever has read the history of India must know Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Maharaja Ranjit Singh
was born on 13 November 1780 in Gujranwala, Punjab. Gujranwala is now in Pakistan. When he was just 10 years old, he participated in his first war. He ascended the throne at the age of 12 and conquered Lahore at the age of 18. During his reign of 40 years, he did not allow the British to even wander near his empire.

British administrator and diplomat Sir Lepel Griffin has written a book on Maharaja Ranjit Singh titled ‘Ranjit Singh’. In this Lepel writes that even though there was a distance of 5000 kilometres between French ruler Napoleon Bonaparte and Maharaja Ranjit Singh, both were contemporaries. Both were short in height, but both had won major military battles.

Coronation took place at the age of 20

Maharaja Ranjit Singh was just 12 years old when his father died. At a very young age, the responsibility of the throne fell on his shoulders. But his coronation happened when he was 20 years old. On 12 April 1801, Ranjit Singh was crowned as the Maharaja of Punjab. After the coronation, in 1802, he annexed Amritsar to his empire and in 1807, he captured Kasur by defeating Afghan ruler Qutubuddin. In 1818, he captured Multan and in 1819, he captured Kashmir. However, Maharaja Ranjit Singh died on 27 June 1839. It is said that the decline of the Sikh empire started after this.
