The government has once again made some changes in the mobile SIM rules. But this time these changes have been made not for the citizens of the country but for foreign citizens coming from outside. Earlier, foreign citizens coming to India used to face a lot of trouble in buying a mobile SIM. But after the change in the rules for obtaining OTP, the foreign citizens coming will not have to face this problem. So let’s know what changes the government has made in the mobile rules.
Foreign citizens will benefit from this
The rules which have been changed by the government will benefit foreign nationals the most. Now they will not face any problem while buying a mobile SIM. Now foreign nationals will be able to use email for OTP.
According to the earlier rules, foreign citizens had to use local numbers for OTP to get a SIM. But after the change in rules, now you can use email to get OTP. This will now eliminate the hassle of using local numbers.
EKYC made mandatory for citizens
The government has recently made changes in the rules for citizens to get SIM cards. The government has now made EKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) mandatory in the process of getting SIM cards for local citizens. In EKYC, the user’s identity and address are electronically verified through Aadhaar authentication.
Actually, there were many scams going on regarding SIM purchases, such that people were not even aware and fraudsters used to get SIMs issued in their names and after that the SIM was used for wrong purposes. To stop such scams, the government has made EKYC mandatory.
