What is a virgin birth? This incident happened with a shark for the first time in history

Many strange incidents happen every day in the world. A similar incident happened in Italy recently, where a shark gave birth to a child without fertilization. However, it is not that the shark is the first creature to give birth to a child without fertilization. A few days ago, the news of a snake also went viral, this snake also gave birth to many children without fertilization. On the other hand, talking about sharks, this is the first such case on earth with a shark in which a shark has given birth to a child without fertilization. Let us now tell you the whole incident in detail.

What is the whole matter

Actually, researchers at Italy’s Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria had kept two female sharks under observation since 2020. Recently, researchers came to know that one of these sharks is pregnant. The biggest thing is that this shark did not need the sperm of any male shark to fertilize the egg. This species of shark can live up to 25 years. However, this is the first case when a shark of this species has fertilized an egg alone.

What is virgin birth

The theory of virgin birth applies to those female organisms that do not need the sperm of any male organism to give birth to a child. These can be any kind of organisms. Especially such organisms are found more in snakes and fishes. Only last year, one such snake was discovered, which is capable of virgin birth. If scientists are to be believed, then the organisms capable of virgin birth go through the process of parthenogenesis.

Actually, parthenogenesis occurs in only one organism out of millions. The organism in which parthenogenesis occurs is capable of giving birth alone. This is definitely rare, but there are 15000 such organisms in the world that can produce children through this process. However, till now no mammal has been seen producing children through the process of parthenogenesis. But this phenomenon is common in reptiles and fish.
