FILM REVIEW ‘Maanaadu’: Although time loop is less shown in films, but some English films (Groundhog Day, Fifty First Dates etc.) have tried to explain this scientific phenomenon. A very interesting and surprising story has been created regarding this concept in the recently released Tamil film ‘Manadu’ on Sony Liv. If there are seasoned actors, then the story of the film takes four moons, but if the story and its editing is excellent, then the audience does not even like to get up from the seat. Manadu is a similar story, missing even a single scene can make a difference in the understanding of the story. Must watch awesome movie.

All the films that writer and director Venkat Prabhu has made so far have been liked by the audience. Most of his films have been comedy or romantic. This time he has stepped into science fiction. This film is a new example of Venkat Prabhu’s grip on the craft of film making (FILM REVIEW ‘Maanaadu’). Once upon a time the center of the earth used to be the city of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh and the famous temple of Kaal Bhairav ​​there.

Actor Seelambarasan himself is a devotee of Shiva, so he has played the most interesting role in this story. He has become Abdul Khaliq, who was born during the riots that broke out after the demolition of the Babri Masjid. His parents fled the riots to the temple where a Hindu priest saved his life and he was born with the help of the priest’s wife. For example, in the story of King Vikram and Betal of Ujjayani, the cycle of time has been shown that every time Vikram catches Betal and Betal narrates the story to him, at the end of which a question has to be answered. Vikram speaks in reply and Betal again sits on the flying tree. In the same way, Abdul also gets trapped in a time loop.

Abdul is coming to India from Dubai. Kidnapping that girlfriend from the marriage of one of his friend’s girlfriends to get her married in the registrar’s office. While fleeing after the kidnap, their car hits a branch, the police arrive and take Abdul and his friends to DCP Dhanushkodi (S Surya). To avoid the whole matter, Abdul is given the task of going to a political rally and shooting the Chief Minister. Abdul is ready to do this work to save the lives of his friends and as soon as he takes out the gun, the Chief Minister gets shot and the police come and surround Abdul and he is shot dead. The next moment Abdul’s eyes open, he finds himself in the same flight from which he was shown arriving earlier.

From here the time loop begins and Abdul comes to understand that the DCP and another politician Paranthaman are conspiring to kill the Chief Minister to usurp his chair. There is only one way to stop this, that Abdul can go back in time to understand the conspiracy of this incident and fail the plan by connecting all the sources. Along with the Chief Minister, he could save the lives of his friends as well and destroy his enemies. In the same time loop throughout the film, Abdul is shown going back little by little and solving the whole mystery. Abdul’s blood and DCP Dhanushkodi’s blood mix in a time loop and now the DCP is also trapped in the same time loop. From here the story becomes doubly interesting. In the end the hero has to win but how he saves the Chief Minister by going back one step at a time, saving a few seconds each time, this story has been presented in a very tight screen play of 2 hours and 27 minutes. There is no scope to get up from the seat even once.

Seelambarasan belongs to a film family but has been considered as a very outspoken actor. Don’t know in what tune he started commenting on Tamil actor Dhanush. There were a lot of misunderstandings between the two and more than acting, Silambarasan has been disliked in the industry because of his behavior. Once on the initiative of Dhanush, both of them sat down and tried to understand their differences and then the tension between the two ended. Seelambarasan has played the role of Abdul Khaliq in this film. There was no chance to show the depth of acting in the character. Because there was so much depth in the story itself. Any other actor would have played this role but in the action scenes, Seelambarasan has done well. The antagonist of the film i.e. DCP Dhanushkodi is played by a very talented actor SJ Suryah. Surya is a successful director, so he understands the demands of the director very quickly. The graph of his character has been created very well. Except for a few scenes, his face looks quite ferocious. He has done amazing in the role of an overconfident policeman.

In the film, Silambarasan has not become a superman full of invisible power, so the story looks good. Suddenly some divine power does not come and tell them that they are in a time loop. They try to understand each and every incident and slowly understand what is the real story? Abdul has to die to understand a new secret every time and the story returns to Abdul sitting in the flight. This is wonderful and exciting. As the story progresses, Abdul understands that his death will stop the story, so he starts using this trump card. On the other hand, Dhanushkodi also takes a long time to understand the time loop, but that character also does not show any magic.
The scenes of Abdul’s efforts to stop the murder of the Chief Minister’s colleague are amazing. The soul of the story is understood there. Director Venkat Prabhu has tried to make it a logical film and he has succeeded to a great extent. Any unexpected incident, some magic, or the inappropriate use of time loop, moving away from the comedy without talking, they have been taking the story to the murder of the Chief Minister. With him in this work is his pen and his brahmastra, editor Praveen KL. Every time Abdul is killed, the Chief Minister gets shot and then another layer of the story is revealed, the editor peels off this onion very finely, without making the audience cry.

Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Marziyaan is a wonderful song which is very melodious to listen to. There is another song which was a promotional song. Rest all are instrumental themes. The Manadu theme instantly settles in the mind. Manadu is the second film from India after another Tamil film on time loop “Django” which seems to be using the time cycle repeatedly stuck at the same place in a very entertaining way. There are some cheeky dialogues in the film but these dialogues refer to many Hollywood films which are based on time loop and time warp. Director Venkat also thanked Hollywood in one stroke and also kept his film away from that rate race. The film is a bit long but that is not anyone’s fault. It must be seen. To know whether such films can be made in India.
