On 24 May evening, the boiler of Mankameshwar Furnace Factory located in Sector 2 of Talanagari under Harduaganj Police Station of Aligarh exploded with a loud bang and a fire broke out in the premises. Two workers died of burn injuries on the spot, one died during treatment. Four other workers working there were badly burnt. The injured have been admitted to AMU’s JN Medical College.

The deceased were identified as Subhash Chauhan (45), iron smelter of village Sunamai Raipur Godha, and helper Satish (46), resident of Harduaganj Nidhaula. Among the injured workers, Harish Babu (35), resident of Harduaganj, died during treatment. The injured include Sumit Solanki (40), Pappu (35), crane driver Dharmendra (42) and operator Mukesh alias Kalicharan (38), resident of Eta Chungi. The condition of three of them is said to be critical. All these workers were being shifted from the medical college to the trauma center of Quarsi late at night keeping in mind the need for ventilators. The explosion was so massive that there was an atmosphere of panic in the area. On hearing the news, the entire staff including DM-SSP reached there. After about two hours of effort, the fire could be controlled. At present, the factory has been closed and investigation has been started.

Babulal Jain, a city entrepreneur and resident of Durgabari, has a furnace factory named Mankameshwar Steels Private Limited Unit-II at Tala Nagri Sector 2 Plot No. 266. Iron scrap is melted in this factory to make ingots. On May 24, work was going on as usual. At around 6:35 pm, scrap was put in the boiler of the furnace for melting. Then suddenly the boiler of the furnace exploded with a loud bang. Burning pieces of iron and flames came out from inside it and two workers working nearby got caught in it. Both died on the spot.
