According to BBC report, Tyler Weinrich, a resident of America, had heard that Britain’s Turks and Caicos Island is very beautiful. He was planning to go there for years. One day suddenly he packed his bag and left. He roamed around the whole island with his friends. He also went to the gun range. There he unknowingly kept two bullets in his bag. He was not sure that because of this he would get into trouble.
Arrested before boarding the cruise
When he started returning, he was stopped before boarding the cruise because two 9 mm bullets were found in his bag. The security personnel immediately arrested him. When the matter reached the court, the court imposed a fine of 9,000 dollars i.e. about 7.5 lakh rupees on him. Not only this, he was ordered to be kept in judicial custody for the next three weeks. The court said that he would be able to leave the island only after paying the entire fine.
Minimum sentence of 12 years
According to British law, if anyone is found with a gun or its bullets in Turks and Caicos Island, he can be sentenced to at least 12 years. A fine of lakhs of rupees can also be imposed. The administration made this law amid frequent incidents of firing in Britain. However, no tourist has received such a long sentence so far. Before Weinrich, four more American tourists were trapped in similar circumstances. One was fined Rs 5 lakh, while another was fined Rs 8 lakh.
