It is said that mother’s love has no value. What a mother can do for her children, hardly anyone on earth can do. But imagine, what would be the condition of a mother who suddenly finds out that her child is suffering from a rare disease. Surely she will break. But something similar happened with 28-year-old Megan Brimson, living in the English city of Isle of Wight. It is said that when Megan’s 5-year-old son Arlo was playing in the sun, an unusual glow appeared in his right eye. Megan got scared after seeing this ‘white glow’ and immediately took her son to the hospital. She accompanied Arlo to St Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight, where his eyes were examined.
The investigation revealed that there was a large mass on his right eye. In such a situation, the local doctors referred the child to the Royal London Hospital, London, where the investigation revealed a rare type of eye cancer, Retinoblastoma, which can affect young children. Doctors began treating Arlo and he had to undergo an enucleation, in which the infected eye is removed. After this he had to undergo four rounds of chemotherapy. Now Arlo has recovered, but he had to wear an artificial eye. Arlo’s mother Megan is a singer from the Isle of Wight. He said, “Arlo is doing very well, we are very proud of him. He is cleaning his eyes himself, we have fitted him with an artificial eye. Now he also goes to school, where he enjoys it very much. “His older brother is his best friend, who always makes sure Arlo is comfortable and okay at school.”

Megan told that it was the year 2023, when I saw a white glow in Arlo’s eyes while playing in the sun. This seemed like a simple thing to me. In such a situation, the next day I kept Arlo with a relative. Suddenly she called and told that Arlo’s eyes had turned completely white while playing in the room in direct sunlight. I was pregnant at that time. But I asked him to take me straight to the hospital. “We knew something was wrong.” Megan said doctors examined both of Arlo’s eyes and confirmed he had retinoblastoma and would need surgery to remove his right eye. Being 36 weeks pregnant at that time, I was very emotional. The first thing I did was call my mother and tell her. He also informed the rest of the family members about this.
During this time my husband stood by me like a rock. Arlo’s first night after surgery was difficult, he woke up every half hour and became agitated. Let us tell you that one of the specific signs of retinoblastoma is a white glow. Apart from this, the eyes appear swollen. Richard Ashton, CEO of CHECT (Childhood Eye Cancer Trust), said that retinoblastoma is rare, but about one child is treated every week in the UK. Symptoms can be quite subtle, and children often appear healthy on their own. But if you see any such symptoms, consult an eye doctor immediately.
