The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested Chandrika (37), a resident of Basti, UP, accused in the sensational murder case that took place in Sangam Vihar area of Delhi in the year 2018. The accused had brutally killed his wife for interfering in his extramarital affair. The Crime Branch has solved the case after six years.
According to Rakesh Pawaria, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch (Headquarters), the accused Chandrika murdered his wife at her in-laws’ house in Sangam Vihar on the night of December 2 and 3, 2018 and then absconded. The court declared him a fugitive on October 8, 2020. The team of Inspector Sunil Kumar Kalkhande posted in the branch was searching for the accused for several months. During the investigation, Havildar Parveen Kumar saw the accused’s frequent movement between Gorakhpur and Basti. When the team reached Gorakhpur, it was found that the accused had left Gorakhpur via Delhi to hide somewhere in Punjab.
The team led by Inspector Sunil Kumar Kalkhande arrested him from New Delhi Railway Station. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was married 5-6 years before the incident. While working in Gurugram, Haryana, he developed an illicit relationship with a woman, due to which his wife often quarreled with him. As part of the conspiracy, he came to his in-laws’ house on the evening of December 2, 2018. Late at night when all the family members were sleeping, he went to his wife’s room and killed her by strangulating her with a pillow. After this, he kept roaming around to hide himself at different places in Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He came from Gorakhpur yesterday and was planning to flee to Punjab by train.
