Acid rain can acid ever rain on the earth instead of water

Whenever it rains on earth, only water falls from the sky. But, the way the atmosphere is changing and pollution is affecting the earth’s environment, the day is not far when instead of water, acid will rain on the earth. Let us know today under what circumstances this can happen.

First know what acid rain is

Acid rain is already happening to some extent on the earth. However, there are many hypotheses in science about the possibility of acid rain completely replacing water. Such a situation on earth can occur due to many environmental, chemical and astronomical events. Now understand what acid rain is.

Actually, acid rain occurs when pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide in the atmosphere combine with water vapor to form sulfuric acid or nitric acid. These acidic droplets fall on the earth in the form of rain. However, this rain is not so acidic that it can be called pure acid rain.

Can rain of pure acid occur?

Generally, this is not possible at present. But climate, pollution or external astronomical factors can create such an environment that can cause acid rain on the earth. Understand it like this that if pollution increases too much on the earth or pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide increase in the atmosphere in very high quantities, then this situation can arise.

Especially high pollution levels from industry, excessive use of fossil fuels and rapid increase in the amount of greenhouse gases emitted from factories can be responsible for acid rain on the earth. Apart from this, a large volcanic eruption can release sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and other gases into the atmosphere, which can cause acid rain. Such a situation arose after the eruption of Pinatubo volcano in the Philippines in 1991. This can also happen due to meteorite collision.
