The University Grant Commission (UGC) has taken major action against universities violating PhD rules. UGC has imposed a five-year ban on three universities of Rajasthan. Now these universities will not be able to enroll students in the PhD program for the next five years i.e. from 2025-26 to 2029-30. The universities which have been banned include OPJS University in Churu, Sunrise University in Alwar and Singhania University in Jhunjhunu.

UGC has said that all three universities were violating PhD rules. In the notice issued by UGC, it has been said that a standing committee was formed to examine the PhD rules in universities. This committee found that these three universities were not following the rules, after which notices were issued to them. This action has been taken when satisfactory answers were not given.

UGC Chairman said that we are looking at the quality of PhD programs in some more universities. We are investigating, this process is still going on. If it is found that PhD rules are being violated then action will be taken against them.
