Airtel Asked TRAI To Regulate Content That Is On Aired Through Digital Apps But Why | Airtel wrote to TRAI

Airtel asks TRAI to regulate digital content: IPL season 16 started from March 31 and many matches have been played till now. This time the digital rights of IPL are with Reliance Jio and the company is giving people the benefit of watching matches for free through the Jio app. Jio users can enjoy the match for free. But in the meantime, Bharti Airtel has written a letter to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, in which the company has demanded a law on the content on air through broadband or digital apps. We are going to tell you why Indian Airtel has said this.

Actually, Indian Airtel says that Reliance Jio is broadcasting IPL for free through its app. If the company wants, it can also offer IPL only for its subscribers, which means that non-Jio users will have to switch to Jio, which is not good for the market. Airtel said that the content delivered by DTH comes under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. Similarly, digitally on-air content should also come under it so that there is competition in the market. Along with this, Airtel has also demanded One Service-One Rate system from TRAI. At present, the content going on air through digital apps is not under TRAI.

Overall, Airtel says that if a telecom operator is airing a program for free through its app, then that program should also be on air for free on DTH, whereas IPL is being aired for free on Jio Cinema app. But TRAI has fixed the price of Rs 19 for watching IPL on DTH.

Jio said this

Reliance Jio has denied this stand of Airtel and said that if it is so, then the model of free content shown on YouTube will also end as it will also have to charge customers for the content. Reliance Jio said that there is a need to change the existing TRAI rules so that such challenges can be reduced.
