Airtel Penalty notice: DOT i.e. Department of Telecommunication has imposed a fine of more than Rs 3 lakh on Airtel, the second largest company in the telecom world. Actually, the company has violated the rules of subscriber verification due to which this notice has been sent. Airtel told BSE that it has received a notice from DOT on January 8, 2024 regarding Bihar LSA in which a fine of Rs 3,57,000 has been imposed on the company.
Giving details about the notice, Airtel said that DOT had observed sample customer application forms during an audit in September 2023 in which the terms and conditions related to customer verification norms under the license agreement were violated. Instead of this, this action has been taken.
Such a large number of Airtel customers in October last year
According to the data released by TRAI for October 2023, the number of Bharti Airtel customers has increased by 3.52 lakh in October. With this, the total number of customers of Sunil Mittal-led Airtel has increased to 37.81 crore. According to the report, India’s largest telecom operator, Reliance Jio, added 31.59 lakh mobile users in October 2023, after which the total number of customers of the company has increased to 45.23 crore. Before this i.e. in the month of September, Jio had 44.92 crore customers.
On one hand, the user base of Jio and Airtel is increasing, while on the other hand, the country’s third largest company VI is continuously losing user base. The company lost 20.44 lakh wireless customers in October. Now the number of customers of the company has reduced to 22.54 crores. Vodafone Idea has been continuously suffering losses in terms of userbase for the last several years. A big reason for this is that 5G has not been rolled out yet.
