In the year 1981, the film Umrao Jaan was released in which Rekha was seen in the lead role. This film created a stir at the box office. After the film became a blockbuster, the makers decided to make it again in 2006. This decision proved to be so wrong that the makers ended up in loss.

Abhishek Bachchan and Shabana Azmi were seen in lead roles along with Aishwarya Rai in the 2006 film Umrao Jaan. This film had caused a lot of damage. The big thing was that Aishwarya was not the first choice of the makers for this film, before her Priyanka Chopra was offered but she refused.

Rekha did not receive fees
In 1981, Rekha impressed everyone with her acting in Umrao Jaan and made a lot of headlines with her acting. The makers could not pay Rekha for her acting but promised to make her immortal. Umrao Jaan made profit and his film proved to be a blockbuster.

Umrao Jaan was created by JP Dutta. JP Dutta had said- I had to come to a point and take a decision. I wanted to work with Priyanka. I saw him like Umrao Jaan. Priyanka had refused for the film because she had dates booked.

Film made after 12 years
According to the report of Box Office India, Umrao Jaan was made for Rs 23 crores but this film collected only Rs 7.42 crores at the box office. After which JP Dutta became very disappointed and he could not make any film for 12 years. He again formed Paltan in 2018. This film also flopped.
