The 25th meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC) is being held today in Howrah, West Bengal under the chairmanship of Home Minister Amit Shah. It was attended by Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, while Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav attended instead of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.
The CM and Deputy CM of Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Sikkim attended the meeting. In the Eastern Zonal Council meeting, Home Minister Shah will discuss the boundaries of these five states and matters related to the completion of the Eastern Freight Corridor.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, on Friday evening to attend the meeting. During this, he was warmly welcomed by BJP State President Sukant Majumdar, Leader of Opposition in Bengal Legislative Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari and State Minister Sujit Bose. Security has been beefed up around the BJP office and the Bengal state secretariat in view of the Eastern Zonal Council meeting.
Issues of security, inter-state trade, smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border and ‘connectivity’ will also be discussed in the meeting.
