According to BollywoodShadis.com, when Jaya could not tolerate the press reports and industry rumors of Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan’s affair, she invited Rekha for dinner at her home. At that time Amitabh Bachchan had gone out of Mumbai for a shooting.
In an old interview given to Stardust, Rekha herself had told that Jaya Bachchan had invited her for dinner and she had accepted the invitation thinking that there would be an argument. He also revealed that Jaya had welcomed him with open arms at her house and showed him the entire house. However, when she was leaving, Jaya Bachchan said something after which Rekha and Amitabh never worked together again.

The portal quoted Rekha as saying, “Jaya had no objection to the relationship as long as she thought her husband was only flirting. She was saddened when she realized that he was actually emotionally involved. He invited me for dinner one evening and though we talked about everything else that day, he did say to me, “No matter what happens, I will never let Amit die.” I will not leave.”
