Condemning the recent vandalism at the Gauri Shankar Temple, the Indian Embassy in Toronto said that the act hurt the sentiments of the Indian community in Canada. In a statement, the embassy said, “We strongly condemn the defacement of anti-India slogans at the Gauri Shankar Temple in Brampton, a symbol of Indian heritage. The despicable act of vandalism has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Indian community in Canada. Have appealed to the authorities to take concrete action in this matter.”
Mayor gave assurance of action
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown also condemned the vandalism and said Canadian authorities were investigating the incident. “This despicable act of vandalism has no place in our city or country,” tweeted the Brampton mayor, adding, “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their place of worship.”
