Anurag Kashyap on Vicky Kaushal: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently joined The Kapil Sharma Show along with actors Manoj Bajpayee, Piyush Mishra and Pankaj Tripathi as they celebrated the 10th anniversary of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. The gangster drama was released in two parts in 2012, and earned Anurag recognition as one of the leading directors of the country. Introduced the audience to many actors, who went on to become stars.
Vicky Kaushal had to go to jail
Not only did it introduce many actors, but the film also showed the way to a future star from behind the scenes. Vicky Kaushal was an assistant director in the film, and Anurag narrated an anecdote of how Vicky had reached jail. When Piyush Mishra joked that he gets shocked whenever crew members of Anurag’s films escape arrest, host Kapil Sharma asked what he meant by that.
Anurag explained in Hindi, “During Wasseypur, Vicky Kaushal went to jail once… We would shoot without permission, and once we were shooting the actual illegal sand mining that the mafia was doing. And Vicky is caught. But director of ‘Haramkhor’ Shlok Sharma one-upped Vicky. He went to jail twice.
Anurag also went to jail twice
Shlok was working as the second unit director in Wasseypur, and Anurag had revealed in an interview with PTI in 2017, “In Wasseypur, he went to jail twice. He wanted to shoot such shots of the tracks that he put cameras on the bridge. After that he went to jail for it and if he had a camera there, he would have shot there as well.”
Vicky Kaushal played the lead role in ‘Masaan’ directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. He also acted in ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’, ‘Manmarziyaan’ – both directed by Anurag. He will be seen in a cameo in the filmmaker’s latest film, Almost Love with DJ Mohabbat.
