Apple offers 100 million dollar investment proposal to Indonesia to lift ban on iPhone 16

Apple-Indonesia Issue: From October 25, 2024, the Industry Ministry of Indonesia had banned the sale of Apple’s latest iPhone i.e. iPhone 16 in its country, which is still banned.

Indonesia did this because Apple did not follow the country’s “Local Content Rate (TKDN)” policy. Under this policy, smartphone production is required to include 40% local content or employment.

Apple offered investment of $100 dollars

The Indonesian government made it clear that Apple has not made the required investment for the production or research of the iPhone 16. Now Apple has proposed to invest a total of $100 million (about 15.4 billion yen) to the Indonesian government to lift the ban on the sale of iPhone 16. Let us tell you about this news in detail.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry had said in a statement issued on October 5 that the sale of iPhone 16 is illegal, because Apple has not taken permission to sell iPhone 16. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwan Kartasasmita said, “If you have an iPhone 16 that is working in Indonesia, please inform us about it, because if you do not do so, it means that we This device has to be considered illegal.

Apple increased investment 10 times

According to a Bloomberg report on November 5, it was reported that Apple had proposed to invest $10 million in Indonesian suppliers to obtain permission to sell the iPhone 16 in Indonesia. However, this investment was not enough for the Indonesian government to lift the ban on iPhone 16 sales. Now a latest report from Bloomberg suggests that for this reason Apple has now proposed to increase its investment in Indonesia tenfold to $100 million.

According to some anonymous people who spoke to Bloomberg about it, Indonesia’s Industry Ministry, after receiving Apple’s proposal to increase investment, has requested them to focus on smartphone research and development in Indonesia. However, the Industry Ministry has not yet taken its final decision on this new proposal of Apple.

Let us tell you that this step taken by Indonesia is a part of pressurizing foreign companies to contribute to domestic industries. The Indonesian government had earlier also succeeded in setting up a $1.5 billion joint venture with local tech company GoTo from TikTok’s parent company ByteDance. Now it remains to be seen whether the Indonesian government accepts this new investment proposal of Apple or not.
