Normally a healthy body has 5-6 liters of blood. Platelets are present in the blood. Their job is blood clotting and prevent bleeding from the body. These are called thrombocytes. Their number per microliter of blood ranges from 1.5 lakh to 4.5 lakh. If it decreases to less than 30,000, then bleeding starts from the body and blood starts coming out from the nose, ears, urine and stool.

To know the number of platelets in the blood, CBC or complete blood count test has to be done. If its number is low, then to increase it, one should eat foods rich in vitamin B12 and vitamin C, folate and iron.

Symptoms of low platelets: Unbearable headache, pain in muscles and joints, fatigue and weakness, pain in the eyes, rashes on the body, signs of mild bleeding

How to increase platelets: Eat foods that increase platelets such as papaya, pomegranate, kiwi, beetroot, spinach, giloy, coconut water. 2. Take foods rich in B12, vitamin C, folate and iron. 3. Eat foods rich in vitamin K such as banana, spinach, broccoli and sprouts. 4. Dengue patients should take as much liquid as possible. Drink lemonade, coconut water and buttermilk.
