Minorities in Pakistan

The bad condition of minorities in Pakistan since the partition of India and Pakistan is not hidden from anyone. Minorities are harassed the most in Pakistan. Today we will tell you how people of Hindu religion perform their last rites in Pakistan.

Let us tell you that the maximum number of people of Hindu religion live in Karachi city of Pakistan. The biggest crematorium of Hindus is built in Lyari, a suburb of Karachi. The Pakistan government has given land in some districts for the last rites of Hindus. But people of Hindu religion living in other cities including Karachi are not able to perform last rites at the crematorium. The reason behind this is the lack of availability of all the material for last rites and high prices. Due to this also Hindus bury the dead bodies. However, Hindu dead bodies are not buried in the Muslim way. Hindus bury the dead body in a sitting position i.e. cross-legged. In Hinduism this is called the posture of meditation. For this, instead of a grave like Muslims, a round pit is dug and a cone-shaped mausoleum is made on top of it.

How many Hindus are there in Pakistan?

According to the results of the 2017 census, there are 1.6 percent Hindus, 1.6 percent Christians, 0.2 percent Ahmadi Muslims and 0.3 percent other population, which includes Bahais, Sikhs and Parsis. According to many media reports, religious conversion is happening at a rapid pace in Pakistan.

Minorities are troubled for last rites

In Pakistan, apart from Hindus, people of other religions also face problems for cremation. According to the information, the Pakistan government has given land to people of Christian, Punjabi, Hindu religion for cremation. But according to the population, those lands are very less and located at a distance. Therefore, the minority community has to face a lot of trouble for last rites. Funeral material is also not easily available in Pakistan, due to which people there face many problems. Now the situation is such that minorities of many other religions including Hindus bury their loved ones after their death, although this method of burial is different from Muslims.
