Are you also making this mistake while buying apples? Know the method and keep these things in mind

New Delhi. You buy apples from the market and bring them home, but you are not getting the same taste as before. The shopkeeper is selling them to you by telling you that they are apples from Kashmir and Himachal and is also charging a good price. In reality, they are not apples from Kashmir and Himachal. You should know which apple it is and keep in mind the things mentioned here while buying next time.

There are two types of Kashmir and Himachal coming in the market, first is Kashmir and Himachal and second is Afghani. The arrival of Afghani apples is constantly increasing. Due to this, they are available in abundance in the market. Afghani apples are cheaper than Himachal and Kashmir. Both look the same from the outside. But there is definitely a difference in taste. Generally people buy Afghani apples because they are cheaper. That is why you do not get the same taste in it as before.

Because of this there is a difference in taste

Dr. Mahendra Kumar Verma, Director of ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture Srinagar, said that the apples which are to be exported are plucked before they are fully ripe. Apples coming from Afghanistan are also exported from there, which takes time. Therefore, these are also plucked earlier, whereas apples from Kashmir and Himachal have to be sent within the country, it does not take much time to go from one corner to another, so they are plucked only after they are fully ripe. This is the reason for the difference in the taste of Kashmir-Himachal and Afghani apples.

Keep these things in mind while buying apples

Next time when you go to the market to buy apples, don’t fall for the cheap ones. The apples will look the same but there will be a slight difference in the price. If you buy the expensive ones, you will get the same taste as before.

Inflows are increasing in the market

Pawan Chhabra, a trader from Azadpur Mandi, Delhi, the biggest market in North India, says that both types of apples are coming to the market. The arrival of Afghani apples has increased as compared to earlier, which is a little cheaper, so traders buy more of it.

Import figures

According to the data, 1508 tonnes of Afghan apples were imported in the financial year 2022-23, while 37837 tonnes were imported in the year 2023-24. In this way, the inflow has increased by about 2400 times.
