Waqf Bill 2024: AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed strong objection to the working style of the government on the suspension of Waqf Board JPC for Friday (January 24, 2025). Describing it as a sensitive issue, he said that the government is forcibly trying to pass this bill in Parliament through JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee), which may adversely affect a particular community.
Owaisi termed the government’s process on the Waqf bill as unfair and haphazard. He says that instead of preserving the Waqf properties, the proposed amendments are meant to destroy these properties. He said, “The Waqf Bill is a sensitive issue. If the government wants to forcefully pass it and bring it to Parliament through the JPC, it will have bad consequences legally as well and it will have an adverse impact on a particular community.”
Demand for intervention from JPC and Lok Sabha Speaker
Owaisi further said that the method of presenting the report of the committee regarding the process of this bill is haphazard and disorganized. He accused the government of trying to pass this bill in a hurry, which is wrong. He said, “We request the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to intervene in this matter.”
Question on government’s intentions on Waqf properties
Asaduddin Owaisi also raised the question that the real objective of the government is to destroy Waqf properties instead of saving them. They alleged that the amendments proposed under this bill would weaken the status of Waqf properties instead of protecting them.
What is Waqf Bill?
