Ashok Kumar on his Grandfather: Bollywood’s veteran actor Ashok Kumar was known for his different kind of acting. He did many great films in his career and created a unique identity. Ashok Kumar was also called ‘Dadamuni’ and he also sang songs. Although his voice was not as amazing as his brother Kishore Kumar’s, his songs were still liked. It is said that the father of Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar was a lawyer.

Ashok Kumar gave an interview many years ago in which he told about his ancestors. Ashok Kumar described his ancestors as dacoits and said that they used to loot money from the rich and that is why people liked them.

Ashok Kumar mentioned his ancestors in one of his old interviews. When he was asked what his ancestors used to do, Ashok Kumar said, ‘An interesting thing about my ancestors is that my ancestors were dacoits. My father used to say that about 150 years ago our ancestors used to commit dacoity.

Those people used to commit robbery in Bengal and their name was Raghuraj Daku and they were very famous. But they used to rob the rich and give the money to the poor, that is why the people there used to like them. Even Rabindranath Tagore had written something about them in one of his books.

Who was Ashok Kumar?

Born on 13 October 1911 in Bihar, Ashok Kumar’s real name was Kumudlal Ganguly. He was born in a Bengali Bihari family. Ashok Kumar had two younger brothers Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar, while he had a younger sister Sati Rani Devi.

Ashok Kumar started his acting career with the film Jeevan Naiya in the year 1936. Ashok Kumar worked in the film industry as an actor, director, singer and producer for almost 50 years. He died on 10 December 2001 in Mumbai.
