Rahul Gandhi Visits Assam: Assam is in the grip of severe floods. 24 lakh people have been affected due to heavy rains and floods in 29 districts of Assam. So far 78 people have died. Many major rivers across the state, including the Brahmaputra, are flowing above the danger mark. Amidst all this, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will meet the flood victims of Assam on Monday.
Actually, Rahul Gandhi is going on a tour to Manipur today. While going to Manipur, Rahul will reach Kumbhigram Airport in Silchar of Cachar district of Assam. From here Rahul will go to the flood relief camp in Lakhipur and will know about the condition of the people living there. From here Rahul will reach Jiribam in Manipur.
– The situation in Assam remains serious due to floods and about 24 lakh people have been affected by this natural disaster. Many major rivers including Brahmaputra are flowing above the danger mark across the state. Sources said that so far 78 people have died due to floods, landslides and storms this year. At the same time, 8 more people died in the last 24 hours.
– The bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that two deaths each have been reported in Dhubri and Nalbari, and one each in Cachar, Goalpara, Dhemaji and Shivsagar. Dhubri has the highest number of affected people at 754791. 53,689 people have taken shelter in 269 relief camps in the state. The Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark in Nematighat, Tezpur and Dhubri. The Burhidihing river in Khowang, Dikhow in Shivsagar, Disang in Nangalmurghat, Dhansiri in Numaligarh, Kopili in Dharamtul, Beki in Barpeta, Sankosh in Golakganj, Barak in BP Ghat and Kushiyara river in Karimganj have crossed the danger mark.
– Rahul Gandhi had earlier reached Ahmedabad to meet the victims of Morbi accident in Gujarat and Rajkot gaming zone accident. Rahul had recently met the families of Hathras stampede victims. 123 people died in the stampede at Bhole Baba’s satsang in Hathras.
