Allahabad High Court has granted conditional bail to Atin Zafar, friend of former MP Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and associate of former MLA Ashraf. The court said that after being released on bail, he will not threaten witnesses, will not tamper with evidence, will be present on the date of the case. In case of violation of these conditions, the concerned court is free to cancel the bail. Justice Rajbir Singh’s court granted bail after hearing the arguments of advocate Shadab Ali and advocate Mohd. Irfan.

A case was registered against former MLA Ashraf’s brother-in-law Saddam and others in Bareilly’s Vidhri Chainpur police station. It was alleged that Saddam and others provide facilities to Ashraf in jail. They allow outsiders to meet without slip and against the rules of jail manual. Jail personnel are also involved in this. During the investigation of the case, the police also included the name of Aatin Zafar. According to the CCTV of the jail, on 9 February 2023, Aatin Zafar went to meet Ashraf with Asad Ali in Bareilly jail. On 15 February 2024, the trial court rejected Aatin’s bail application. This order was challenged in the High Court.
The applicant’s lawyer argued that Aatin is innocent. He has been falsely implicated in this case by the police. He is not named in the First Information Report. The police have registered two cases against him, for which clarification has been given. The court has accepted conditional bail after hearing the arguments.
