Actually, when bananas ripen naturally, ethylene gas is released from their peel. The higher the amount of ethylene in the air around bananas, the faster they ripen. The brown color comes from the presence of dark pigments including melanin. It is also found in the skin and hair of humans. As a banana turns brown, more and more brown, most of the starch is converted to sugar, making it sweeter. That’s why bananas that have turned brown do not spoil. You can make more food from them.

How to slow down the ripening process
There is another way to slow down the ripening process of bananas at home. Wrap it with cling film from all sides. Instead of keeping all the bananas together, keep them separately. Because when you wrap them with cling film, there is less space for the leakage of ethylene gas. On the other hand, if you want the bananas to ripen quickly, then keep them in a closed paper bag. By doing this they will get enough oxygen and bananas will ripen quickly; If you keep bananas in a plastic bag, then sufficient oxygen will not be available and ripening will stop. This is why most of the time, bananas in supermarkets are often packed in plastic.
