Bangladesh Election 2024: Voting for the twelfth election of the National Assembly of Bangladesh has started on Sunday (07 January). A total of 27 parties including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League have taken part in this election, but many opposition parties including BNP have boycotted this election. Opposition parties have called for a strike amid voting.

Voting is being conducted on 299 constituencies in Bangladesh. However, voting on Naugaon-2 seat has been postponed due to the death of a candidate there. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has contested the elections from Gopalganj-3 seat. He went to the City College Center in Dhaka at 8 in the morning and voted.

Voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm. There has been extensive coverage of the elections in Bangladeshi media. Apart from this, the fire in the train on Friday and the incidents of violence across the country on Saturday were also given prominent place in the media of Bangladesh.

‘Lack of transparency of elections’

Bangladesh’s leading newspaper ‘Desh Parmavar’ has published a news titled ‘Appeal for real democratic elections amid concerns over voting’. In this news, the newspaper writes that the election monitoring organization Asian Network for Free Elections believes that there is a lack of transparency and electoral competition in the general elections.

Dainik Samachar newspaper has written a news titled ‘One fourth polling station is in danger’. The newspaper wrote, polling stations of about a quarter of the constituencies are in danger in the 12th National Assembly elections. Apart from this, there may be many other polling stations where there is a risk situation.

The newspaper ‘Manav Zameen’ wrote, from the Election Commission to the foreign observers, they have turned a blind eye to this matter, it seems that the foreigners are no longer interested in the elections of Bangladesh.
