Bangladesh lodges formal protest to the Indian Government over killing of Shwarna Das by BSF


Shwarna Das Killing Case: On September 1, the Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on people trying to infiltrate into India, in which a Bangladeshi girl named Swarna Das died. Bangladesh has lodged an objection on this matter. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Thursday (September 5) and informed about this.

Bangladesh Foreign Ministry said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged a formal protest with the Government of India over the killing of Swarna Das, a 13-year-old Bangladeshi girl of Juri Upazila, Moulvibazar District, who was shot by the BSF of India on 01 September 2024.”

Along with this, Bangladesh also called upon India to prevent recurrence of such heinous acts, investigate all the killings on the border, identify the persons responsible and bring them to justice. On the other hand, 45 hours after the incident, on Tuesday night, the BSF handed over the body to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

Swarna Das was the daughter of Porendra Das, a resident of Kalanigar village under Juri Upazila of West Juri Union. In fact, according to a report by The Business Standard, she and others were shot by BSF personnel when they were trying to enter India near the Lalarchak border area of ​​Sharifpur Union in Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar on Sunday night.

BSF and BOP had a meeting

Kulaura police station in-charge officer Binay Bhushan Roy said that the body was returned to the girl’s family after completing the necessary legal procedures. BGB-46 battalion Lalarchak border outpost (BOP) patrol commander Naik Obaid said that a flag meeting was called between the BGB and BSF to deal with the situation.
