Bangladesh Violence Bans Social Media Apps Instagram YouTube WhatsApp Facebook

Bangladesh Social Media Apps Ban: Popular social media apps Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube have been temporarily banned in Bangladesh. This decision has come at a time when protests have started again in Bangladesh on the issue of reservation.

There has been no official statement from the Bangladesh government regarding the ban imposed on these social media apps, although the Times of India and Global Eyes have given information about the social media ban in their reports.

Ban imposed on these apps

According to the Times of India report, the government in Bangladesh has temporarily banned the use of popular social media apps including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and WhatsApp. Earlier on Friday, Global Eyes News had given information about this ban through its official X account.

Global Eyes also reports that a temporary ban has been imposed on social media sites across the country since Friday. The government has restricted the network of Meta’s platform after 12 noon and the internet speed has also been slowed down so that social media cannot be used even by using VPN.

A ban was also imposed last month

Protests were started again in Bangladesh on Friday (2 August) against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government. Earlier these protests were held last month as well, after which curfew was imposed.

Last month too, Instagram and Facebook were banned and a decision was taken to block the internet and social sites. Later, after the Supreme Court’s decision on the reservation quota, the matter calmed down a bit, after which protests have started again.
