Bareilly city climbed 57 steps in the cleanliness ranking, but lagged behind 79 cities. Bareilly left Agra, Mathura, Jhansi, Saharanpur, Moradabad and Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation behind in the ranking of Swachh Survekshan 2023. All these cities were ahead of Bareilly in Swachh Survekshan 2022.
Bareilly’s ranking then was 137th. The ranking improved when the Municipal Corporation worked towards garbage disposal and making the city open defecation free. This time Bareilly has got 10th position in the state and 80th in the country. Last time it was 13th in the state. The Municipal Corporation has already got the title of double plus in garbage free city and ODF.
The results of the Swachh Survekshan were released on Thursday. It was expected that Bareilly would get a place in the top 50 cities of the country, but had to be satisfied with the 80th rank. The good thing is that Bareilly, which has gained 57 points, has rapidly improved its position. Due to this, the officers and employees working for cleanliness are excited. Bareilly has got 80th rank among cities with population less than 10 lakh.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Ajit Kumar Singh said that Bareilly is the only city in UP which has climbed 57 steps in the ranking of Swachh Survekshan in one year. Mayor Umesh Gautam was also present in the function organized at Bharat Mandapam on Thursday during the declaration of Swachh Survekshan results.
