The benefit of group insurance will be given to teachers and employees posted in council schools after April 1, 2014. Basic Education Council will provide its benefits through LIC. Its preparation has started. About 2.25 lakh workers will come under the ambit of this benefit.
Earlier, these teachers-employees were given the benefit of insurance but due to some problems, it was stopped about two years ago. Since then there was continuous demand for it. In this sequence, last year the council had sent its proposal to the government, from where after permission, the process has now been started.

The Secretary of the Council has told all the BSAs that the proposed group insurance scheme will provide death claim cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per person at a lower rate. Premium will be deducted from salary every month. The Secretary has asked all BSAs to provide necessary information about teachers by March 27.
– In case of death in any manner, whether natural or accidental, the entire death claim will be paid by LIC.
