Beijing-based Betavolt in China has created a battery smaller than a coin that can last for 50 years without charging. According to the company, this nuclear battery is the world’s first battery to realize the dream of small size of nuclear energy. If we understand it in simple language then it can create atomic energy in the smallest form.
According to the company, this battery has been completely tested. In the coming time, this battery can be used in drones and smartphones.
How is the battery made?
Betavolt’s atomic energy batteries can be used for long-term power supply in medical equipment, aerospace, AI equipment, microprocessors, advanced sensors, small drones and micro robots. This battery is of 15 x 15 x 5 mm dimension. Which is made from thin layers of atomic isotopes and diamond semiconductor wafer. At present this battery is capable of generating 3 volts and 100 microwatts of electricity. The company aims to generate up to 1 watt of power by 2025.
One thing about the battery makes it very special and that is that the radiation emanating from it does not reach humans, due to which it can prove to be very useful in the medical field also. According to the company, this battery will revolutionize the world of Artificial Intelligence.
How will the battery work?
This battery converts the energy released from the isotope into electricity. This concept was first used in the 20th century. Currently, under its 14th five-year plan, China is working towards making nuclear batteries smaller from 2021 to 2025. Layered design has been made in these batteries. Due to which there is no danger of fire or bursting due to sudden increase in pressure. According to the company’s claim, these batteries can work well even in temperatures of 60 to 120 degrees Celsius.
