Birth of Maharishi Sushruta
It is difficult to tell the exact date of Sushruta’s birth and tenure. One can only speculate about it. Sushruta was born in the clan of sage Vishwamitra, while his wonderful creation i.e. ‘Sushruta Sahinta’ is considered to be the sixth century BC.
There is no exact evidence regarding how and from whom Sushruta got the knowledge of surgery. However, Kashi Naresh Dhanwantari was also a medical doctor named Divovas. In that period, doctors were called Dhanvantari. Sushruta was also born in the same clan.

The basis of the nomenclature of surgery is related to the war etc. in ancient times. At that time arrows and spears used to enter the body of the soldiers. Contribution of Sushruta in Sushruta Samhita
Various aspects related to surgery have been explained in detail in this book. According to this treatise, Sushruta used more than 125 self-made instruments for surgery. In these, there were tools like knives, needles, tweezers etc., which they used to make themselves.
Not only this, more than 300 methods and procedures for performing operations have also been told in this book. According to Sushruta Samhita, Sushruta was well-versed in plastic surgery, eye therapy, delivery, locating broken bones and joining them etc.
