Expansion

For centuries, the whole world has accepted them as Kinnar, Kothi, Hijra, Transgender, as a third gender apart from masculine-feminine. Till now this was the acceptance in Bihar also. But, starting from April 15, the enumerators of the caste census will record the third gender as a caste in their records. Means, a person of third gender may be born in any caste – for him the caste in this caste census will be ‘Kinnar / Kothi / Hijra / Transgender (Third Gender)’. In this caste census being conducted for the first time in Bihar after the British era, they have been identified not by gender but by their caste. like the rest, their Caste also has its code – number 22

Government is considering eunuchs as puppets

As the information of caste census is spreading along with codification, a large section of eunuchs is preparing to stand against it. A group of eunuchs had said at the time of the caste census in Bihar that the government was going to commit a social crime. The question of Reshma Prasad, the well-known representative of eunuchs in Bihar and outspoken writer-speaker, is sharp, but present. She asks that when caste is determined by birth mother or foster father, how can any government make a separate caste system for that? She says that the government sometimes pretends to keep us in the backward class and sometimes creates a caste for us, as if we are puppets. Prescribing caste and caste codes is sheer social and legal crime.

Caste by birth, rights given by caste are being snatched away

Reshma Prasad is the first transgender in the country to be chosen as its brand ambassador by a municipal corporation. Reshma has been fighting a long battle for the rights of the transgender community. She says that the Bihar government included the transgender community in the backward class citing the Supreme Court order and is now keeping it as a caste in the caste census. Also, she raises an important question – “If a transgender person is from Scheduled Caste-Tribe (SC-ST) by birth and you conduct caste census keeping him in the backward class by surrounding him in the ‘Kinnar’ caste, then it is a crime. Not there? This is like taking away the right of SC-ST reservation from him. Similarly, aren’t transgenders born in a forward family? How can it be right to give them the benefit of backward class reservation while keeping them in the ‘Kinnar’ caste?”

Srivastava, Lala or Lal told caste then Kayastha will not survive, will be called…

If you want to give benefits then such census has no meaning

Many people from the transgender community put forward their views on this question in front of ‘Amar Ujala’. Hiding their identity, the eunuchs said that the government is talking about getting the deprived people their rights by conducting a caste census, but we have been deprived of every right for centuries. deprived of all benefits. There was no need for any calculation for us. The needy are not counted, this is being counted for one’s own need. The eunuchs said that like Karnataka, there should be either a separate 1% reservation for transgender persons in Bihar or a 1% reservation for eunuchs in all classes.
