An encroachment removal campaign was conducted by the Municipal Council in Supaul city on Saturday. Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, the administration vacated the illegal encroachment of shopkeepers in Station Road including Hathkhola Road of the city. However, when the administration team reached near the Head Post Office on Station Road, local businessmen gathered and started protesting. Angry businessmen protested by blocking Station Road near the Head Post Office for about an hour. During this time the traders also raised slogans against the Chief Councilor, EO and Ward Councilor. Traders were angry over the campaign being run during the festive season without any prior notice. However, later some ward councilors reached the site of the jam and explained it to the traders. The jam ended after the assurance received on the phone from Chief Councilor Raghavendra Jha.

Businessmen mobilized and took to the streets

In fact, under the leadership of Executive Officer Devarshi Ranjan, the Municipal Council’s encroachment removal team started clearing the encroachment from Lohia Nagar Chowk with Lav Lashkar. Since the beginning of the campaign, the team removing encroachments had to face opposition from the traders. But the team did not listen to the traders and proceeded ahead by breaking the tin shed with the JCB. During this time, the shop boards on the roads were also confiscated. When the Municipal Council team reached Station Road, the traders became vocal. The Remove Encroachment team had moved a short distance from the Head Post Office when businessmen gathered on the road and blocked the road, raising slogans against the Municipal Council. The traders involved in the jam said that the city council was deliberately harassing the traders during the festive season.

Encroachment eradication campaign will be started again

Here, the traders kept insisting, but the officers and personnel included in the team kept forcibly demolishing the tin shed. Due to this, the traders got angry. The jam supporters said that they will not remove the jam until the officials apologize. Although several attempts were made to contact the executive officer in this regard, but his side has not come forward. Supaul Municipal Council Executive Officer Devarshi Ranjan said that before the encroachment removal campaign, miking was done in the city. At present, on the request of businessmen, the campaign has been stopped till the end of the festival. The encroachment removal campaign will be started again after Diwali and Chhath.
