The deceased advocate has been identified as Niranjan Kumar Mahato, son of Vishnu Dev Mahato, resident of Mirzapur Dih in Ballia police station area. Family members have told that extortion tax of Rs 2 lakh was being forcibly demanded by the criminals of the village. Family members have also told that Niranjan Mahato had sold his land a few days ago. After selling the land, an extortion amount of Rs 2 lakh was demanded by the criminals of the village.
