There is an atmosphere of celebration in the country and the world regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act. In the Refugee Colony of Muzaffarpur, there was a wave of happiness among 32 Hindu Bengali families who came from East Pakistan and today’s Bangladesh between 1956-1958. There, riots were going on after partition and people of non-Muslim community were targeted and driven away, after which these people took refuge in Muzaffarpur. As soon as CAA was passed, people started celebrating and congratulating each other by applying gulal and feeding sweets. These people have expressed gratitude for this proposal of the Government of India.

Took refuge after violence broke out in eastern Bangladesh

Amarnath Sinha, who returned from East Pakistan between 1958 and 60, said that due to today’s decision of the Government of India, there is an atmosphere of happiness in all of us Bengali Hindu families. Our family members came here and took shelter. We, 32 families, had fled to save our lives after the violence that broke out in eastern Bangladesh and the targeting of non-Muslims, after which the Government of India gave us shelter in the refugee colony of Muzaffarpur, now Ganipur. Now happy with the implementation of this law. Today is a very important day for Hazare and people are distributing sweets and celebrating it.
