Now the team of Central Water Commission will find the solution to the floods in North Bihar. On the instructions of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, a five-member committee was also formed by the Central Water Commission. This committee will explore the possibilities of building new barrages and other structures for the rivers of North Bihar. Janata Dal United’s working president and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha said that this is a big initiative towards a long-term solution to the floods in North Bihar. He wrote on social media this morning that after a detailed discussion with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on many important issues related to the development of Bihar and the long-term solution to the floods in North Bihar, I met Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in her chamber in Parliament House on June 28, which was quite fruitful.
MP Sanjay Jha said that the Finance Minister listened very seriously to my suggestions related to reducing the impact of floods in North Bihar; and called another high-level meeting in the evening of the same day, in which I was also asked to participate. Apart from Union Foreign Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and Union Jal Shakti Ministry Secretary Debashree Mukherjee, some senior officials of the Finance, Foreign and Jal Shakti Ministries also attended the evening meeting.

In this important meeting, there was a detailed discussion on the issue of preparing a detailed blueprint for better water management with the aim of reducing the impact of floods in North Bihar. I explained in detail how floods from rivers coming from Nepal are a big obstacle in the path of development of North Bihar. Also, the Bihar government has to spend a huge amount every year on works to protect life and property from floods, relief and rehabilitation measures, which affects the development of the state. Based on my experience of working as the Water Resources Minister of Bihar, I also gave many suggestions for its solution and everyone listened to my suggestions seriously.
A five-member committee was also formed
Due to the personal interest of the Finance Minister, it was decided in the meeting that a high-level committee will explore the possibilities of building new barrages and other structures for better management of water of various rivers of North Bihar. A five-member committee was also constituted by the Central Water Commission the same evening. In the committee, Chief Engineer Ambrish Nayak of Lower Ganga Basin Organization (LGBO), Patna has been made the chairman, Director of Ganga Flood Control Commission (GFCC) Sanjeev Kumar, Director of BCD under Central Water Commission SK Sharma and representative of Water Resources Department, Government of Bihar have been made members, while the Superintending Engineer of LGBO has been made the Member Secretary. This committee has to submit its initial report by tomorrow.
NDA government will turn disaster into opportunity
The JDU working president said that I am confident that the NDA double engine government will turn the disaster of floods that occurs every year in North Bihar into an opportunity. The land of our North Bihar is very fertile. If there is a long-term solution to the floods and maximum use of surplus river water for irrigation, the path to rapid development will be paved in the entire North Bihar.
