Another child admitted in the PICU ward of Muzaffarpur SKMCH has been confirmed to have Chamki fever (AES). After this, the total number of cases has increased to 34. With the increase in heat and humidity, AES cases have also increased. However, no child has died so far and all the children have recovered and returned home. A total of 20 cases have been reported in Muzaffarpur district so far, out of which 2 cases are from the urban area.

Chamki fever now in urban areas too

While the health department is on alert mode regarding the children’s disease Chamki fever, the cases have increased in the month of June which is considered the peak month for AES and once again the health department has started working on alert mode. More than a dozen cases have been confirmed in the last one week. The maximum number of cases have come in the last 5 days, while half of June is still left. In the cases that have come in Muzaffarpur in the month of June, after June 4, cases were reported on June 13, June 14, June 15 and June 18. The health department is in alert mode. Now after the rural areas, AES has gained momentum in the urban areas as well. Two new cases have been reported in the urban areas.

Health department will intensify public awareness campaign

After confirmation of AES case in Muzaffarpur district today, the health department will intensify public awareness. In this case, civil surgeon Dr Ajay Kumar said that since it is very hot now, there is a possibility of Chamki. However, there is no serious case, all have been discharged. Now awareness campaign will be run in urban areas as well. He said that the result of publicity till now is that the cases have come down so far and those who have come have recovered and returned home. We will intensify the public awareness campaign and this work will be done through ANM Asha Anganwadi Sevika by going door to door.

A case of Chamki fever was confirmed in February 2024

AES Chamki Fever The first case of Chamki Fever (AES) was reported on 26 February 2023, which was from Sakra block of Muzaffarpur district. After this, the second case came to light in March, after which cases of different districts have come to light till now, which were seen in the months of May and June. During this period, cases increased in other districts as well and now it has increased to 34. In this, 20 cases are from Muzaffarpur district, while 14 cases are from other districts. Cases have increased in Muzaffarpur district, along with this, cases were also increased in other districts.
